Care Ethics and Paternalism: A Beauvoirian Approach

Feminist care ethics has become a prominent ethical theory that influenced theoretical and practical discussions in variety of disciplines institutions on global scale. However, it been criticized by transnational feminist scholars for operating with Western-centric assumptions registers, especially universalizing as is practiced the Global North. It also prioritizing gender over other categories intersectionality hence not being truly intersectional. Given imperialist colonial legacies embedded into unequal distribution work across globe, approach may carry danger paternalism. Hence, critical to would require reckoning these challenges. The aim this article first unfold responses them from then present resources Beauvoir’s existentialist ethics, specifically tenet treating freedom, productive tools countering paternalistic aspects practices.
